WEEK
13: THE WORD OF GOD
Memory Verse for Week 13
1 Peter 2:2
“As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow
thereby:”
According to 2 Peter 1: 6, to patience (perseverance)
we are told to add godliness. Godliness
comes by being nourished and cleansed by the Word of God.
God’s
Word Nourishes Us
One of the great gifts God has given to enable us live a Godly life is
His Word, the Bible. Just as
a baby must have nourishment to grow and be healthy, so must new Christians.
Just as we must have food daily to survive, so we must have daily
nourishment from the Word of God, the Bible.
Most of us are used to a diet of junk food for our minds.
We must learn to develop a healthy appetite for the Word of God. We must ingest it, digest it (meditate on it) and live out
it’s truth in our lives. Our
survival depends on it! Without it,
we will shrivel and die.
Read Matthew 4:4.
Jesus declares that shall not live by bread alone, but by what?
________________________________________________________________________
Read Jeremiah 15: 17. When we eat God’s Word, what does it become to our hearts? _____________________________________________________________
Read
2 Timothy 3:16-17. Where do
the Scriptures come from?
_________________________________________________________________________
For what purposes are they
given to us? _________________________________________________________________________
________________________________________________________________________
The doctrine of the Scriptures is useful for teaching and instruction in
the details of Christian truth and duty. They
are for reproof and correction, convincing us of our error and making us realize
what is wrong in our lives! And the
Word of God provides discipline, training, chastisement, showing us how to
correct what is wrong. It also
gives us instructions about how to do what is right and pleasing to God.
The purpose is to make us “perfect,” meaning complete, sufficient,
completely qualified, thoroughly equipped.
God’s Word gives us the necessary skills and tools to be capable in
performing every good work. (Zodiates Complete Word Study Dictionary
NT,1992)

We will have understanding and discernment, and be able to discern and
avoid false teachers.
We
Are Cleansed By The Word

Read Psalm 119: 9 and 11. How can we cleanse our way?
Read James 1:21. Paraphrasing
this verse, it says
:
Lay aside all filthiness and abundance of bad habits of the mind, and

What does Colossians 3:
16 instruct us to do with the Word of Christ?
___________________________________________________________________
What does James 1:22-25 tell us to do?
___________________________________________________________________
The person who reads God’s word, but doesn’t do it is deceiving his
own self. Just listening and talking and learning God’s ways are not enough!
Talking and hearing about
the way of change and not doing anything about it can be a waste of time!
He says to be doers of the Word! This
means applying the word to our lives! A
person will not know the true meaning of the commands and principles in
Scripture until they obey them. If
a person reads the Bible without doing what it says, the Word will be forgotten.
But if he does what it says, he will remember and be transformed
with the power of the Holy Spirit. As
the Word is obeyed it brings peace even in the midst of turmoil.
We can be knowledgeable, but if we do not apply that knowledge to our
lives, there will be no change. We
will have received the Word of God in vain, it will make no difference in how we
live our lives.
WHAT DOES THE WORD WHAT SHOULD WE
DO FOR US?
DO
THEN?
1. Nourishes us and makes
1. Read it!
us grow as Christians.
2. Study it!
2.
Shows us Truth
3. Meditate on it!
3. Cleanses us.
4. Memorize it!
5. Do it!
As we read, study,
meditate on, memorize, and obey God’s Word, we will be changed and
transformed! And we will be
pleasing in the sight of the Lord.
Write 1 Peter 2:2 from memory.
