A
SURE
WO
By Mae Shurow
With the plethora of denominations, interpretations, and Bible versions
today, one can quickly and easily become thoroughly confused about the Truth.
But God has not left us to flounder in a sea of opinions!
He has given us a sure Word in His Son Jesus and through the Holy Spirit.
Jesus said:
John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth:
Moses was a great prophet and lawgiver, but he prefigured a greater Prophet than himself. Moses prophesized that God would one day speak to His people through this greater Prophet:
Deut.
18:18
I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee [like
unto Moses],
and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I
shall command him.
Acts 7:37 This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear.
The Israelites would not listen to Moses, but the Bible says God would
raise up a great Prophet that His people must listen to and obey:
The promises to Abraham were to be fulfilled through his son, Isaac.
This prefigured the promise
of OUR inheritance, which is through THE SON, Jesus.
Jesus IS the fulfillment – the child of promise, the heir!
When Jesus was declared the Son, the Father was proclaiming His Son, who
would inherit all things. The
Father kept saying, “This is MY SON!” to tell us – THIS is Him
through which all the promises will be fulfilled!
MY SON is the promised Prophet, and Priest, and King, and Savior, and
Messiah, Anointed One…Heir of All Things.
Psalm 2:7-8 I will declare
the decree: the Lord hath said
unto me, Thou
art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance,
and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
Luke 3:22 And the Holy
Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came
from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son;
in thee I am well pleased.
Hebrews
5:5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest;
but he that said unto him, Thou
art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.
Jesus was the foretold Prophet, He is the Word made flesh:
John
1:14
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his
glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and
truth.
John 1:17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
The written word (the Bible) makes it clear that God has spoken in
different times and in different ways, but now He speaks to us by His Son, who
is the Living Word. God speaks
through the very Spirit of Truth, who will guide us into all truth (John
14:6 – Jesus is truth ; 1 John 5:6 –
the Spirit is truth).
Hebrews
1:1-2
God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto
the fathers by the prophets,
2Hath
in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed
heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
In the book of Peter, we read that we have a more sure word from God in
His Son. More sure than what?
It must mean more sure than the written word we have from the prophets.
Peter speaks of the transfiguration, when the Father spoke from heaven
and established His Son as the promised Prophet whom people will do well to hear
and obey.
2
Peter 1:17-19
For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came
such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in
whom I am well pleased.
18And this voice which came from heaven we
heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
19We
have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take
heed,
as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the
day star arise in your hearts:
There is no doubt that Peter is speaking of “a more sure word of
prophecy” being in Jesus because he goes on to describe this sure Word in
verse 19 “as unto a light that
shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your
hearts.” All are Biblical descriptions of the Son of God.
Peter continues in the next verses to tell us that since we have this
sure word of prophecy, no Scripture is to be interpreted by an individual .
The words of prophecy did not come by man, but were given by the Holy
Spirit to holy men who merely delivered them.
These men did not interpret the Scripture, they merely conveyed what God
had revealed to them!
2 Peter 1:20-21 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
The Bible was inspired by the Spirit of God, and only the Spirit of
Truth can reveal the meaning of the written word to an individual.
Only as a person reads and listens to the guidance of the Spirit can they
understand what the written word says.
Why then so many disagreements among the people of God?
Why so many denominations? Why
so many Bible versions? Well, Peter
goes on to enlighten us…
2 Peter 2:1-3 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 3And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you…
There were false prophets then…
Ezekiel 13:2-3,6-7 Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel that prophesy, and say thou unto them that prophesy out of their own hearts, Hear ye the word of the Lord; 3Thus saith the Lord God; Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing6They have seen vanity and lying divination, saying, The Lord saith: and the Lord hath not sent them: and they have made others to hope that they would confirm the word. 7Have ye not seen a vain vision, and have ye not spoken a lying divination, whereas ye say, The Lord saith it; albeit I have not spoken?
…there are false prophets NOW!
The reason behind all the interpretations, Bible versions, and
denominations is very simple. We have a lot of people today who do not have the
Spirit guiding them proclaiming their OWN understanding of what God has said.
They are leading many people astray…
[Pray] That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give
unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge
of him: the eyes of your
understanding being enlightened;
(Ephesians 1:17-18)
