    out of an intense hunger for
    God, a heartfelt desire to see
    His people following hard
    after Him, and a “fire in my
    bones” to share what the
    Lord has shown me. It is my
    prayer “That the God of our
    Lord Jesus Christ, the Father
    of glory, may give unto you
    the spirit of wisdom and
    revelation in the knowledge
    of him:” (Ephesians 1:17) to
    a greater degree as you
    read these pages.

We hear a good deal today about the great love God has for us; but what we seldom hear is that God wants our love and devotion to Him above all else. Yet it is very clear from Scripture that nothing pleases God more than our love. When the commandments were given, the very first was to love the Lord with all your heart. And we are told in Hosea 6:6, "I want you to show love, not offer sacrifices. I want you to know me more than I want burnt offerings" (New Living Translation).

What pleases God is not complex; it is simple. It's SIMPLE, but not EASY. It's like that "single eye" in Matthew 6:22 - without duplicity…For we must abandon the idols that our hearts hold dear... repent and turn from other things that we have come to love because we depend on them for safety, security, and happiness instead of the One who must reign supreme in our hearts. Whatever, whoever, we love more than Him must give place to our Lord who has loved us with an everlasting love. This is the baulking point for most... "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon" (Matthew 6:24).

Seek FIRST the Kingdom - the reign of Christ in our hearts! Traditions of the church cannot be more important to us than God. Neither can we love our parents, our spouse, or our children more than we love God. And we can't worry about what other church members, friends, neighbors, or co-workers think of us. Pleasing our pastors or deacons or elders cannot mean more to us than Christ, who should be more precious to us than our own life! So even pleasing ourselves - fulfilling our own agendas, wants, needs, desires, or rights, cannot be first in our lives. Many of these things can be modern day idols that steal our hearts away from our first love.

Jesus says, "Come unto me..." And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” Anyone who knows the truth says, “Come.” Come to the One who has loved you with an everlasting love, look for Him with all your heart, for only then will you find Him. And only when you find Him will the deepest longings of your heart be satisfied.

May God give us wisdom to discern the idols in our own hearts as we set our affection on things above instead of things on this earth and...
